Its a Christmas gift for the middle class from the Government as GST Council cuts rates on 23 items, including TVs, digital cameras, movie tickets; no relief on cement, automobile parts.

However, the loudest cheers were for Films benefiting the Bollywood which is hugely dependent on Multiplexes.

The reduction of GST on cinema tickets is a welcome relief to both cinemamakers & cinemagoers. Tickets under Rs. 100 to be taxed at 12% (instead of 18%), tickets over Rs. 100 to be taxed at 18% (instead of 28%). Thanks for heeding the voices of the people @narendramodi ji! 🙏🏽 pic.twitter.com/L0Lt8nMxiG— Anil Kapoor (@AnilKapoor) December 23, 2018
Heartfelt thank you to Honorable PM & the Govt of India for considering the request of the film industry for reduction in GST. If Indian cinema hopes to compete in the world market then we need the support of the Govt & Administration.— Aamir Khan (@aamir_khan) December 22, 2018
This is a great 1st step in that direction.
Quick action and how! Within a few days of our meeting with hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, the Government addressed our concern...GST for movie tickets to be reduced. A welcome move for the industry and audiences as well.
